In the south of the Avila province, in the Castile and León community, you will have the opportunity to taste filling and quality dishes. With an extensive cuisine, this town’s most popular recipe is soup, both garlic and tomato. There are not many options to eat in Arenas de San Pedro, but the restaurants and bars they have are very charming.

What to eat in Arenas de San Pedro

This important town, nestled in the Tiétar Valley, offers a tasty culinary experience. If you want to know what to eat in Arenas de San Pedro, besides its famous migas con torreznos, you will find a variety of soups, including tomato, garlic, pig, rabbit and Castilian soup, common throughout the community.

Don’t forget the famous Judías de El Barco de Avila (with I.G.P.) and the seasonal products, especially the mushrooms that are present in many Arenas dishes, often accompanied with Pimentón de la Vera (with D.O.P.). The meat and the suckling goat and pig are customary on the menus in this region, along with the chuletón de Avila (steak). Additionally, the roasted chestnuts, called calvotes, are typical here. For dessert, in addition to the various fruits, they offer arroz con leche and custard. They complete the bakery offerings with pastas de almendra, mantecados and donuts.

Tapas

To enjoy a quick meal, we recommend Tenaguillo.  Here you can eat great tapas. Its specialty is their hamburgers; the flavor of the meat is excellent!

In El Sitio de Gonzalo you will find a variety of tapas and dishes, some made with beef from Avila. A simple place to share some delicious potato chips.

In the Mesón La Golondrina you should order at least one of its delicious appetizers: cochifrito, croquetas, judiones. This is the best handmade food you’ve ever had!

A la carte

In El Marquesito you will find quality ingredients with an exquisite presentation in a cozy restaurant by the river. Perfect to go with friends or family, their menu offers quality dishes for less than 12 euros.

The restaurant Casa Carmela (2 km away) can be reached by walking from Arenas along the river. It offers great service and quality in a beautiful setting. A magical place to go with your significant other. We recommend the sampling menu.
