El Albir Beach in Alicante, a Mediterranean paradise

In the province of Alicante is the municipality of Alfaz del Pi, in the region of Marina Baja, specifically in the town centre of El Albir. It has four beaches in the east to visit: El Albir beach, La Mina cove, El Médico cove and El Amerador cove. One of the most visited beaches is El Albir Beach, close to other holiday destinations such as Altea or the popular Benidorm.

With its wide variety of recreational activities, hotels and restaurants, it is a great beach to enjoy the pleasant climate of the Valencian Community. To the south it borders with the Sierra Helada and to the north with the beach of Cap de Blanc (Altea). It is 500 metres long and has good water quality as there is no port nearby. 

To the south where the beach ends, some coves of difficult access begin next to the cliffs of the Sierra Helada, but the bottom of the sea preserves more fauna and flora than in the most populated and tourist area of Albir.

Although sometimes it is also known as Raco de l'Albir, it is the same beach. Thus, El Albir Beach is perfect to enjoy a day with the family. It is an almost paradisiacal beach, with white sand of pebbles and clear waters. However, the temperature of the latter is usually colder compared to other beaches in the area. When entering the water, it is quite low, which makes it suitable for children, as well as the waves, which usually vary from mild to moderate. 

The promenade, called Paseo de las Estrellas, follows the outline of the beach and invites you to stroll and eat in the bars and restaurants located there. There are also shops of different characteristics on the promenade. For those who prefer to touch the sand as little as possible, sun beds and beach umbrellas are available for rent. Other services to be mentioned on El Albir Beach are toilets and showers, footbaths, a beach library service, a children's area, lifeguards and wooden walkways for those with reduced mobility. It is also possible to rent water structures, such as inflatable castles or scooters with slides.

If you want to complete the day with a hiking route; the views from the El Albir lighthouse in the aforementioned Sierra Helada are worth the walk. This is a simple trip through the Sierra Helada Natural Park, with unbeatable views of the Bay of Altea and the mountains themselves. The route starts from the information point in l'Albir, passing by several viewpoints. The path leads to the end of Punta Bombarda, where the lighthouse is located (and where the Visitor Centre of the Natural Park is located) and the Torre Bombarda. In total, a five-kilometre route considering going and coming back.

How to get to El Albir Beach

From Alicante city centre the best option is to go by car; because by public transport the route time is doubled. By car, to get to El Albir beach, take the AP7 toll road until exit 65 towards Benidorm. After that, take the N-332 and Carrer Pau Casals towards Passeig de les Estreles. 

If you wish to get there by public transport, you will have to take the tram at the Luceros station, under the mythical Plaza de los Luceros. The route would include line 1 towards Benidorm Intermodal and, after 21 stops, get off at the stop of the same name. Here you will have to change to line 9 towards Denia and there are only three stops until you get off at El Albir. After this, you will have to walk for 20 minutes. From Benidorm it is only 18 minutes by car along the Avenida de la Comunitat Valenciana.

Eating in El Albir Beach

The offer in terms of restaurants in El Albir beach is quite wide; with a variety of menus to choose from. In addition to those listed below, others that have a very good reputation are the Blush bistro, ideal for tapas, the Pizzeria Bel Mare and the Country Ribs Restaurant, which specializes in ribs. 

Panorama Restaurant

In the same promenade of the beach we find the cafeteria-restaurant Panorama, an establishment decorated with classic drawings. With beautiful views of the sea, the menu is based mainly on grilled dishes, whether meat or fish. They also have options of seafood and European cuisine. 

Ritz Albir Restaurant

The Ritz Albir Restaurant is perfect for a special occasion; as its cuisine is based on very elaborate dishes and where great care is taken to present them. They use quality products to prepare their recipes from different parts of the world. Overlooking the sea, this restaurant also serves original cocktails.

They have a menu of the day for 15 euros with a first, second and dessert. Some of the dishes on their menu are Carpaccio of sirloin with truffle oil, grilled cod served with creamy spinach, beef sirloin from the north of Spain or Thai style chicken soup, among others.

Estrella Polar

On Avenida de Albir you will find the Estrella Polar restaurant. A simple establishment with a good quality-price ratio. The treatment to the client is very pleasant. Its specialty is Italian cuisine, with a wide variety of pizzas in wood ovens and pastas. Desserts stand out. 

Bar Tapas

On the promenade of El Albir beach you will find Bar Tapas, with a more informal style. It is a good option to try different dishes without going too far from the beach area. They prepare typical tapas like meatballs, patatas bravas, calamares a la romana… 

Noa Lounge & Gourmet

Located on a corner where Altea and Alfaz de Pi meet, the Noa Lounge & Gourmet restaurant offers a modern experience in a chill out atmosphere. It is also known for its good cocktails and music to be enjoyed on its terrace facing the sea. Some of the dishes they offer on their menu are garlic shrimp, cod croquettes, salad with duck ham, huevos rotos, chicken curry or Iberian feather with rosemary honey.
