This place is the home of the Monastery of San Juan de Ortega, where the church of San Juan de Ortega and the chapel of San Nicolás are located. There is not a huge hotel offer in San Juan de Ortega, but we are going to tell you the best options of places where you can spend the night at in here. If you are interested in the gastronomy of the region, we also have a section with the best restaurants and bars from San Juan de Ortega and its surroundings.
Where to sleep in San Juan de Ortega
The accommodation we find here is the Rural Hotel La Henera, located close to the Sanctuary and the Monastery of San Juan de Ortega. The Way to Santiago passes by the door of this rustic and simple hotel. The cottage has 10 double rooms with bathroom and 5 different floors. There's a television and also a coffee machine in the living room. The owners of the hotel also have a bar only 100 meters away, where they serve delicious breakfasts. There is a public hostel, property of the Archbishopric of Burgos, which is another economical option if you want to do the Way to Santiago and stop in San Juan de Ortega to spend the night. It is recommendable to get there early, as the beds get filled quickly and you will need to rest after your long walk.

Hotel Rural La Henera exterior

Hotel Rural La Henera habitación doble

Sleep in San Juan de Ortega: surroundings
As the offer of hotels and cottages to sleep in San Juan de Ortega is limited, we suggest you to visit other villages. It owes its name to the famous noble and politician Don Beltrán de la Cueva. Its main attractions are the Castle of the Dukes of Alburquerque and the St. John the Baptist Church. If you visit Mombeltrán you have to taste the typical chuletón de Ávila with a glass of Rueda Wine.

Here are the best places to stay in Mombeltrán.

Castillo de Mombeltrán

Iglesia de San Juan Bautista

Where to sleep in Mombeltrán
Our first suggestion is the Casa Rural Los Olivos, a spacious and bright country house with large wooden windows.
The Balcones de la Villa is another country house for up to 18 people. It's perfect for all kinds of events and it has a swimming pool, a barbecue and a wine cellar.

And last, but not least, the Hostal del Duque, a hostel located close to Parque de la Soledad. It has 8 rooms on 3 floors, with rustic decoration and hardwood furniture. There is a spa, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, pools and a gym, to make you relax. If you book a double room, you will enjoy a hot tub.

The Hotel Mirador de Gredos is another great option. Another interesting option is the active tourism. We have more information about active tourism in Burgos in this specialized page. Now, we suggest you the best places to sleep in Villafranca Montes de Oca if you are planning to stay here or if you are doing the Way to Santiago.
Where to sleep in Villafranca Montes de Oca
In this small town in Burgos, 3 accommodations stand out as the most recommendable.

Our first option is the Hotel San Antonio Abad, an old pilgrims’ hospital transformed into a hotel. It is a familiar and peaceful place. The decoration is classic and sometimes you could feel like you are staying in a small castle. They have a menu with a really good quality-price ratio.

Another option to sleep in Villafranca Montes de Oca is La Alpargatería, this is one of the places where you feel like at home. It is a typical stone mansion with a rustic decoration. The worst thing of this accommodation is its location, because it is in the middle of a road and there is a lot of traffic.

As our third option, we have the Albergue Municipal of Villafranca Montes de Oca, this option is for pilgrims. It has good facilities with a large kitchen and dining-room. Everything is quite clean. If you are planning to stop here, you should know that this hostel is closed during winter.

San Antón Abad

La Alpargatería

Where to sleep in Villafranca Montes de Oca: surroundings
Villafranca Montes de Oca surroundings are a good option to stay if you are looking for peace.

Our recommendation is the Hotel Boutique Valle de Oca. It is located in Villanasur Río de Oca, 6 kilometres away from Villafranca. This is a restored hotel inspired in the international spice route, the travels of Marco Polo and the last African explorations. This place takes you around different epochs. We recommend it specially for couples. The rooms are really nice decorated and the staff and personnel treatment is fabulous.

In this place the details make the difference. For the most sybarites, the Junior Suite has a chimney on the room, so if you want to have a special weekend, this is your place.

Boutique Valle de Oca

This town has this name because of a Benedictine monastery. A great part of the tourism in this place is attracted by the Gregorian canticles of the monks who live in the monastery.

If you want to know the history of this place, we have a specialized page about it. Staying in Santo Domingo de Silos is easy if you follow our suggestions.
Where to sleep in Santo Domingo de Silos
The Hotel Tres Coronas is and old palauet with Castilian baroque style from the 18th century. It has large rooms, without big luxuries but they match the expectations of an accommodation like this. It has restrained and classical style.

Our second recommendation is the Hotel Santo domingo de Silos. This hotel has had many extensions and general improvements. Due to this, it has two different parts, the hostel and the hotel with better rooms. We recommend you booking on the hotel. The location is really good, because it is right next to the monastery. This is a 3 stars hotel with a really classic style. The staff and personnel treatment is good, but breakfasts are a little poor.

Hotel Tres Coronas

Hotel Santo Domingo de Silos

Where to sleep in Santo Domingo de Silos: surroundings
If you are not satisfied with the options we suggested in Santo Domingo de Silos and you are looking for something different, some kilometres away from this town there is an incredible place.

It is located 4 kilometres away from Santo Domingo de Silos downtown. We recommend you staying in Convento de San Francisco. It is an old Franciscan monastery renovated with simple, large and stark rooms. Medina de Pomar has a lot of attractions, among them: the Alcázar de los Velasco, admired by the poet Rafael Alberti in his texts. In our page of what to see in Medina de Pomar we explain why the tourists do not stop visiting this municipality. We made a classification with the best accommodations on the area.

Alcázar

Where to sleep in Medina de Pomar
Our great recommendation is La Hospedería del Monasterio de Santa Clara. It is difficult to say something negative about this place. It is perfect to stay some days with your partner or in group. In this place the cleanliness is outstanding and all the rooms have excellent services. You will be able to rest in its charming and comfortable rooms.

If you want to stay in a different kind of accommodation, in the Hotel Restaurante Alhama you will be able to sleep comfortable and to enjoy the restaurant menu.
