Where to sleep in San Juan de Ortega

The accommodation we find here is the Rural Hotel La Henera, located close to the Sanctuary and the Monastery of San Juan de Ortega. The Way to Santiago passes by the door of this rustic and simple hotel. The cottage has 10 double rooms with bathroom and 5 different floors. There's a television and also a coffee machine in the living room. The owners of the hotel also have a bar only 100 meters away, where they serve delicious breakfasts. There is a public hostel, property of the Archbishopric of Burgos, which is another economical option if you want to do the Way to Santiago and stop in San Juan de Ortega to spend the night. Sleep in Navas del Marqués

Navas del Marqués is located southeast of the Guadarrama river and it has historically been linked to the Dávila family. You can visit this village in a day as its main attractions are the Magalia Castle and the convent of Santo Domingo y San Pablo. In any case, you can take a trip to Cebreros or to El Tiemblo, to visit the Bulls of Guisando.

Our first option is the Tres Cruces Apartment, a friendly house for up to 6 people, with a terrace and a balcony. It's located in a perfect area to practice horse riding and hiking. The house is very clean and the owner is very kind, and you can get a free drink at his bar.

The Casa del Cura is another house for up to 9 people. You can rent the entire house or each room separately. The rooms are clean and the decoration is simple. This kind of place is perfect if you want to be independent, using the kitchen and the common areas.

Mombeltrán is a small villege located in the Barranco de las Cinco Villas, very close to many hiking trails. It owes its name to the famous noble and politician Don Beltrán de la Cueva. Our first suggestion is the Casa Rural Los Olivos, a spacious and bright country house with large wooden windows. There are two floors and the first one has a big dining room for common use.

The Balcones de la Villa is another country house for up to 18 people. It's perfect for all kinds of events and it has a swimming pool, a barbecue and a wine cellar.

And last, but not least, the Hostal del Duque, a hostel located close to Parque de la Soledad. It has 8 rooms on 3 floors, with rustic decoration and hardwood furniture. A cot is available upon request and you can taste traditional dishes in the coffee bar.

Our favourite place in Piedrahita is the Posada Doña Cayetana, a bed and breakfast located in the main square of the village and a good place to start a trip. 35 km from it you will find the Jerte Valley and it's only 1 hour from Salamanca or Ávila. La Posada preserves the rustic essence in its furniture and the decoration is simple. The restaurant is good and we suggest you to taste the judiones and the chuletón. You can also have a vegetarian option.

The Hostal Gran Duque is a two star hostel and it's a good choice if you're looking for comfort and amenities. Moreover, it is very central and the beds are extremely comfortable, as their customers say. The breakfast is OK.

7 km from Piedrahita, in Hoyorredondo, we find the small rural hotel La Trocha de Hoyorredondo, with wooden roofs and stone walls. It's for up to 20 people and it has common areas, a big hall with a book collection and a terrace. Madrigal de las Altas Torres is a rural village that in the past was the refuge of nuns and the residence of King John II of Castile. Hotel Nabia is a 4 stars hotel and it's our favourite in Candeleda. It's located in a rural area and it owes its name to the Celtic Goddess of mountains, valleys and rivers. It offers 12 rooms, including suites with underfloor heating and a semi-private garden.

The Posada Albarea is a central bed and breakfast, built over an old casa del médico and a sewing workshop. It respects the architecture of the old building and the rooms have a rustic decoration. It's certainly one of the best places to stay in Candeleda and you can have a good gin and tonic at the bar.

The Hostal los Castañuelos is a newly built hostel. The restaurant stands out for its regional cuisine and late check-out is available.

Our first option is the Hotel Palacio de los Velada, a 4 stars hotel with 144 luxury rooms, located near the Ávila Cathedral. The rooms can be double or triple and are located in the oldest part of the palace. There are meeting rooms with capacity for up to 400 people.

Another good place is the Hotel Palacio Valderrábanos, also near the Ávila Cathedral, very close to all the main points of interest of the city. It has 73 welcoming and fashionable rooms with a medieval style. It is a very quiet hotel despite being very central.

Sleep in Ávila: Urban Center

The Sercotel Cuatro Postes is located very close to the city, between the center and the suburbs. It has 140 spacious rooms, well-equipped and well-illuminated. If you can, book a double superior room, it's nicer and the sheets are better.

The cheaper option to stay in Ávila is the Hotel H2 Ávila. The rooms and the breakfast are OK.

Our favourite place in El Barco de Ávila is the Izan Puerta de Gredos, an hotel complex with five different buildings. There is a spa, a Jacuzzi, a sauna, a steam room, pools and a gym, to make you relax. If you book a double room, you will enjoy a hot tub.

The Hotel Mirador de Gredos is another great option. It's a big building located on the banks the Tormes River, built with hardwood. It has 96 rooms, terraces, a big hall with a fireplace and some conference rooms. Its dining room is for up to 250 guests and there is also a wedding hall.

And last, but not least, the Hotel Bellavista, a place where you can do a lot of sports and cultural activities, as well as enjoy the cuisine of the area. The staff is very kind and helpful and they often present their guests with a typical product.

Where to sleep in Arévalo

Our first option is the Posada Real Los Cinco Linajes, a bed & breakfast located near the Santo Domingo Church. This old mansion, declared a Historic-Artistic Site, is divided in 14 rooms and every room is decorated in a different style. Non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price and the terrace is nice at night.

Another good place is the Hotel Fray Juan Gil (2 stars), that is located in the historical center. The breakfast is self-service and it is a good value for money hotel. The rooms are quite comfortable and well illuminated. The terrace is wonderful.

Sleep in Arévalo: Surroundings

A little further from the historical center, we find the Hostal Las Fuentes. This hostel is not very comfortable, but it is located in the middle of the highway (only 1 hour from Madrid by car) and it offers 24-hour room service.

If you love nature, we recommend you the Casa Rural La Candela (15 km from Arévalo). It is located in the middle of Rueda vineyards, where you can see many examples of Mudéjar Art. The house is 120 square metres and there is a big garden where you can relax.

Where to sleep in Atapuerca

Despite the antiquity of the archaeological ruins, the hotel La Turrumbera de Atapuerca surprises you with the modernity of the rooms, with all the comforts. If you come by car, you won't have problems to park your car because the hotel has a private garage. And when you finish your visit, in the swimming pool you will enjoy a quiet bath.

It doesn't matter that the village is small. Tourists love spending the night next to this historical settlement, so much so that the El Pesebre de Atapuerca is one of the most requested hotels, with attention to even the smallest detail. It's ten minutes walk from the Visitors Reception Center.
